Le Tour – One day Ahead

The Bank Holiday is nearly over, I just got back from a 120km road ride with Mel Brand (Ikon Mazda), Stephen Jones and Geoff Thomas – Cure Leukaemia Patron, former England Footballer and Cancer Survivor.

Mel is riding the “Le Tour One Day Ahead” – the full Tour De France route one day before the pros. The ultimate sportive I guess! The purpose being to raise money for Cure Leukaemia, a charity based in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where I work. It was interesting to hear what this “Tour thing” is actually all about and meet the folks involved. Mel is currently all consumed by it, organising money raising ideas and rattling out 100’s of miles under the guidance of Garry at Sportstest. The first time I heard of this giant Sportive was when I met Michael Leather of Leathers LLP at the Sportstest Training Camp in March. He is celebrating 25 years in business with his “Leathers Tour De Force”, also riding all stages of Le Tour De France.

Mel’s job, beyond riding the whole Tour, is to raise £50k for the Cure Leukaemia Charity. Hopefully, I get to join in on the fun bits, like the finale in Paris and fancy hotels…
